Risk sentiment improves across Asian markets
Asian shares have stayed firm in recent sessions, with regional indices trading close to record highs. The MSCI Asia-Pacific ex-Japan index is reported by market data providers to be near all-time levels. This reflects steady demand for growth-linked equities. Stronger US economic data has reinforced global risk sentiment and encouraged capital flows into Asia.
This backdrop favours markets with clear exposure to artificial intelligence supply chains. Investors are more willing to price longer-term earnings visibility. This is especially true where demand is backed by guidance rather than speculation. As a result, equity gains are becoming more concentrated in technology-linked economies.
Semiconductor momentum reshapes regional leadership
Taiwan and South Korea now lead regional performance tables as confidence in the semiconductor cycle improves. Recent earnings and guidance from TSMC point to sustained investment linked to advanced AI chips. The company guided 2026 capital spending at $52–56bn, up from $40.9bn in 2025, according to Reuters. These figures reinforce the view that AI demand is structural rather than short-lived.
South Korean chipmakers are seeing similar benefits. Memory and logic producers report stronger pricing power as AI workloads expand. Therefore, markets are drawing a clearer line between economies tied to AI value chains and those driven by consumer cycles.
Trade signals and investment commitments
Markets have responded positively to closer US–Taiwan economic coordination, formalised in a memorandum of understanding signed this week. Under the agreement, Taiwanese semiconductor firms pledged to invest at least about $250bn in the United States in exchange for tariff reductions. This framework was reported by the Financial Times and Reuters. While execution will take time, the signal to markets is clear.
For investors, direction matters more than headline figures. Overseas fabrication plans support long-term revenue visibility and lower policy risk. This clarity is helping support higher valuations in selected Asian equity markets.
Cross-regional signals and capital reallocation
The rally also reflects a wider shift toward regions aligned with next-generation technologies. Asia’s performance contrasts with weaker sentiment in markets tied to traditional industry. Similar patterns are emerging in Africa, where Gulf-backed digital infrastructure and fast-growing fintech platforms are attracting global investors through comparable technology-led stories.
Looking ahead, the durability of the rally will depend on delivery rather than expectations. Earnings results, policy clarity and global liquidity will remain key. For now, Asia’s technology-heavy markets appear well placed as AI spending reshapes global capital flows.
