According to Kia, cumulative global sales of the PV5 reached 53,530 units by the end of July 2026, following its launch in June 2025.
Kia PV5 sales have passed 50,000 units in just 13 months, signalling that demand for electric purpose-built vans is now a meaningful driver of the group’s commercial EV strategy and overseas growth.

According to Kia, cumulative global sales of the PV5 reached 53,530 units by the end of July 2026, following its launch in June 2025. Overseas markets accounted for about 60% of total PV5 sales, underscoring the model’s rapid traction beyond South Korea. Kia sold 15,853 PV5 units in the second half of 2025 and another 37,677 units in the first seven months of this year. That makes it the company’s third-best-selling electric vehicle between January and July, behind the EV3 and EV5. As a result, the PV5 is now a core pillar in Kia’s move into commercial and customised mobility.

A fast start for Kia’s purpose-built EV strategy

Kia describes the PV5 as its first dedicated purpose-built vehicle — a midsize electric van designed for commercial and configurable use. The sales trajectory since launch has been steep. Company figures show that PV5 cumulative global sales stood at 53,530 units as of end-July, with 32,222 units sold overseas and 21,308 units sold in South Korea. By contrast with many early-stage commercial EV projects, this volume gives Kia real-world data on fleet usage, cost curves and specification demand.

Moreover, media reports citing Kia data indicate that the PV5 has already secured a leading position in Europe’s C-segment electric van market, with around 30% share in the first half of 2026. This aligns with Kia’s stated PBV strategy, which centres on modular, electric platforms built at its Hwaseong EVO plant in South Korea. In addition, specialist coverage notes that the PV5 is now offered in multiple body styles, including cargo, passenger and chassis cab variants. That allows Kia to reach logistics operators, urban delivery fleets and mobility providers with the same base platform.

For investors, the key signal is that commercial EV demand is now material enough to feature in Kia’s reported volumes and in regional market share data — not just in pilot programmes. One analyst comment from Korean financial media captures the shift: Kia’s PBV line, anchored by the PV5, has moved from concept to volume growth engine in barely a year. That line is likely to be tested as Kia scales the range.

What does the PV7 launch mean for investors?

Kia plans to unveil its second dedicated PBV, the larger PV7, at IAA Transportation 2026 in Hanover — one of the world’s biggest commercial vehicle shows. The world premiere is scheduled for 14 September, with the company indicating that market launch will follow next month. Therefore, PV5 performance now sets the benchmark for investor expectations on PV7 adoption, pricing and margin.

Media previews show that the PV7 will sit above the PV5 in size, with passenger and cargo versions and several planned conversion models. As a result, the PV7 targets higher-value use cases, including regional distribution, refrigerated transport and possibly shuttle services. Electrek reporting notes that the PV5 had already surpassed 39,000 global sales by August 2026, ahead of Kia’s own July tally. That suggests continued momentum into the third quarter. This strengthens the context for the PV7’s debut and supports Kia’s choice to locate its PBV expansion in Europe, where urban emissions rules favour zero-emission vans.

For policy makers and development finance institutions watching Asian EV manufacturing, the PV5 numbers add to evidence that commercial electrification is moving beyond passenger cars in the region. Kia’s overseas PV5 sales share of about 60% demonstrates that a South Korean-designed PBV can scale quickly in export markets. Meanwhile, its domestic sales base indicates that fleet operators at home are also shifting to electric vans, helped by charging expansion and total cost of ownership advantages.

Investors now have a clear short-term catalyst. Kia PV5 sales provide a tangible read-across for the PV7 launch and for the broader PBV roadmap, including the planned PV9 later this decade. The next data points to watch will be PV7 order intake after IAA Transportation and any updated PBV margin and capex guidance in Kia’s subsequent earnings — which will show whether commercial EV momentum in Asia is turning into durable returns.
